New Quilt Studio Debut

I just finished creating the new quilt studio!

how big Randy and audreyKaren and audrey four thumbs up

Here’s a little shot of me celebrating with my amazing support team, Randy and Karen- Thank you!

Our last step was to custom build inverted L-shaped baseboards to hide the uneven cement edges of the concrete floor.

Here’s a close-up of a corner and then a capture of them drying after being painted.

baseboards- the final step

I started moving in over the weekend.

Then I had to take some time to think about lighting, shadows, placement, flow, and all that good stuff.

I’m typing to you right now with my computer balanced precariously on a charity quilt I just finished up, which is on top of my ironing board, nearest the spot that gets wi-fi from the neighboring house.

I’m really excited to develop a routine in this new space and get it all decorated in order to invite the big wide world into my little quilt world.

Here’s a shot of the first quilt finished in the new space. I don’t know the name of the quilt maker, but my job was to attach the binding so that it could be complete and ready for donation to a local charity from Hands Across the Valley Quilt Guild, of which I’m a quilt HAVQG

Stay tuned for more- good things are happening.  If you know any little blessings for new spaces- I’d love to have you share them below in the comments!

  1. Shelby says:

Congratulations!!!! I can’t wait to come see the space filled with colorful fabrics and creative energy – it looks wonderful!

    • Ringmaster says:

Perhaps early next week you can swing by to see the growing action- I’m eager to show folks now that the stuff is moving up onto the walls.

  2. Cynthia says:

Congratulations Audrey and team. Seeing and learning about your process of creating this creative space has been very interesting to me. I love the red floor.

    • Ringmaster says:

Thanks for sharing- I’ve been counting on the process being of interest as I have much more of that than product these days. Soon to change! and I love the energy I get when walking into the room with a red floor.

  3. Vanessa says:

Woohoo! Congrats, so very exciting. You request for a blessing got me searching and I found one suited to the occasion. It’s part of a much longer one for a formal blessing ceremony and I’ve included the link, but here is the first part:

We have come together to give thanks
    for this new studio
    and for the artist herself
    to affirm her artistry,
to admire the space that will facilitate her creativity,
    to celebrate with her,
and to anticipate what is to happen here
    in the days to come.

  4. Andrea says:

I share with you the blessing of Shehecheyanu:

The Shehecheyanu blessing gives thanks to God for enabling us to experience a new or special occasion. The blessing consists of one line: “Barukh ata adonai elohenu melekh ha’olam, shehecheyanu, v’kiyimanu, v’higiyanu la’z’man ha’zeh,” which means “Blessed are You Lord our God, Ruler of the Universe who has given us life, sustained us, and allowed us to reach this day.”
